How ‘The Last Jedi’ Saves the Prequels

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about Star Wars this past week, and something I’d never given George Lucas credit for was having a sense of narrative throughout the prequel trilogy. I mean, as bars go, that’s pretty low yet here we are.

I agree with Houston’s argument in this video: the actual story of the Jedi is that of failure, and The Last Jedi does a fantastic job in finally addressing it. In fairness, Dave Filoni has made a similar commentary in The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels.

After watching this video, I’m seeing the prequels in a whole new light.

The Mandalorian Season Two Announced

On the same day the season finale of The Mandalorian was released on Disney+, executive producer Jon Favreau teased out some promising news — the show will return with new episodes in the fall of 2020!

I microblogged about it a bit earlier today, but I’ll say it again: Don’t sleep on The Mandalorian. It is a fantastic show. The story, the characters, the casting, the score (oh my god, the score) are nothing short of genius. This is the type of masterful story-telling that Star Wars deserves.

Fall 2020 can’t come soon enough.

My Favorite ‘Star Wars’ Movies

After recording an episode of Retake about Rogue One, TJ and I started talking about where the movie fell within our personal favorites list. I realized I didn’t have my list written somewhere.

Here’s my list that’ll be updated as new movies come out.

  1. The Last Jedi
  2. The Empire Strikes Back
  3. The Force Awakens
  4. A New Hope
  5. Rogue One
  6. Return of the Jedi
  7. The Rise of Skywalker
  8. Revenge of the Sith
  9. Solo
  10. The Phantom Menace
  11. Attack of the Clones

My list will change as more movies come out. What about you? I’d love to read your list.

Update on December 26, 2017: I updated the list after the release of The Last Jedi.

Disney’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Is an Immersive In-World Experience

Danielle Indovino Cawley’s coverage of Galaxy’s Edge is fantastic. I’ll be referencing this article when I get the chance to go.

Ewan McGregor in Talks for an Obi-Wan Kenobi Series for Disney+

Borys Kit writing for The Hollywood Reporter:

The actor, who famously portrayed the masterful Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi in three Star Wars movies, is in negotiations to reprise the role in a Kenobi-centered series for Disney+, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

I am so excited they decided to do a series instead of a film. Assuming they do ten episodes, there will be ten hours to explore Obi-Wan, how he learned to become a force ghost, and I’m hoping Darth Maul makes an appearance as well.

I’ll never be able to look at normal peanut butter blossom cookies the same ever again. They need to have Darth Vader on them or not exist.

How Fans Will Make Their Own Lightsabers at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

Lightsaber in protective case

Hands down one of the nerdiest articles I’ve read, and I loved every minute. This is Build-A-Bear but for lightsabers, and the disturbance in the force we’ll all feel as Star Wars fans get their hands on these will be epic. No pricing was announced, but by now we should expect it to be pricey, c’mon now. Sounds like it’ll be worth it though.

Coca-Cola and Lucasfilm Collaborate on Star Wars-Themed Bottles

Cool packaging for soda in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge

Part of the Galaxy’s Edge panel at Star Wars Celebration revealed this super cool design, which is essentially a collector’s item. Not only is the shape of the bottle excellent, you also get the logos in Aurebesh. Details like this are really going to make the experience of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge extraordinary, and Disney does that better than most.

‘Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order’ Official Trailer

After getting a teaser image last week, this trailer has me even more excited! The story takes place after the destruction of the Jedi temple, and “Order 66” has been executed. I’m excited to see what new additions this game makes to the Star Wars canon, and I can’t wait to play it.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order comes out November 15th.
