‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’ Official Trailer

Mark me down as officially hyped for the new season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Is it just me, or does this trailer fully acknowledge that Ahsoka Tano and Darth Maul are the best part of this series? I’m interested to see the show cover in more depth Order 66 and how Ahsoka survived.

The final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars will start streaming on February 21, 2020.

Disney announces $12.99 bundle for Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+

Julia Alexander writing for The Verge:

Disney will offer a bundle package of its three streaming services — Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ — for $12.99 a month starting on November 12th, the company announced today.

This is nuts. I’m shocked Disney would price this bundle so low. In fact, I expected Disney to do what Disney does and go with a money-grubbing price. Just the Disney+ content alone looks to be more than worth this price, but bundle in Hulu and ESPN+ and it almost feels like they’re losing money. Of course, that’s absurd and probably isn’t the case, but I’m excited to sign up for this and enjoy all the wonderful content.

‘Jessica Jones’ and ‘The Punisher’ Get the Netflix Axe

Jessica Jones and The Punisher are the last Marvel Netflix shows to be canceled according to Deadline. The third season of Jessica Jones will still air, but no official release date has been announced yet.

At this point, I expected Netflix to cancel these too. I’m confused by the why, but I think this article on Forbes makes a solid argument.

I’ve been hoping they revive these characters on Disney+, but according to some reporting by Joe Otterson for Variety, it seems that would have to wait:

Sources tell Variety that the deal for the original four Marvel shows includes a clause that prevents the characters from appearing in any non-Netflix series or film for at least two years after cancellation.

Daredevil, Luke Cage, nor Iron Fist could be on any streaming service until 2020. Jessica Jones would have to wait longer. I’m unsure whether they can begin production before then (as long as it doesn’t air before the cool off period), or if the specifics of the deal prevent them from working on these shows at all.

In the end, I think this whole thing will be for the best. It’s always better to own your content and have final say as to where it lives and how it’s distributed.

‘Daredevil’ Canceled By Netflix After 3 Seasons

Utterly shocked with this news. I thought for sure Daredevil and Jessica Jones were going to be saved from the Netflix ax, but apparently not. Marvel has to have a plan for these characters on Disney+, right? Please?

With ‘Conan in Japan,’ Conan O’Brien Finds the Secret to Late-Night’s Future

I’m excited to see Conan experiment with the format. People don’t watch TV the way they used to, so adapting your show to new habits is smart.

Vulture's ‘House of Cards’ Series Finale Recap

Jessica Goldstein writing for Vulture:

House of Cards fired Kevin Spacey, and offed his character, Frank Underwood, amid a multitude of credible allegations of sexual predation, rape, and violence. In the wake of these revelations and Spacey’s removal came a creative opportunity: With Frank axed, the show could go places that did not involve Frank at all. Nothing in this farewell season needed to be about Frank. But virtually everything was.

Spoiler warning. Don’t click through on this unless you’re ok with that.

Jessica nails it with her criticism of this final episode and final season. It was disappointing to see a show that began so incredibly well to end so horribly.

‘Daredevil’ Director Alex Garcia Lopez Knew the Fight Scene Should Be Done in a Single Take

One of Daredevil‘s season three episode directors, Alex Garcia Lopez, in a quote given to Abraham Riesman writing for Vulture:

“I got the script on the first day, and I came upon, like, page 11 or whatever it was, and it started to describe this amazing sequence,” he recalls. “I just kept reading it and it just kept yelling at me, This should be a oner. So I finished the script and I literally called Erik, the showrunner, and I was like, ‘Mate, I think we have an incredible chance here to do a fantastic oner.’”

Hands down one of the best scenes I’ve ever watched in television or film. I had no idea the work involved in making something like this.

‘Luke Cage’ Cancelled by Netflix

Justin Carter writing for CBR:

Another Netflix MCU series bites the dust, as Luke Cage will not be returning for a third season.

The reason for the cancellation, supposedly, boils down to creative differences, though showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker had previously said he had plans for the series if it returned.

I’m shocked by this news. When Netflix announced the cancellation of Iron Fist, that made sense to me. The show didn’t do well in its first season, and while the second season was a huge improvement, I’d think some didn’t give it a second chance.

My hope is that this isn’t the last we’ve seen of Luke Cage. He’s a great character that was perfectly cast.

‘Daredevil’ Season 3 Official Trailer

Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk is my favorite of the Marvel TV villains (followed closely by David Tenant’s Kilgrave, of course) so understandably, I’m excited to see that he’ll be a big part of this season. The stakes are high this season, not only is Wilson Fisk a physically powerful enemy, his political influence and control of public perception is what makes him a complex foe to defeat.

Season three of Daredevil debuts on Netflix October 19th.

The Constant in Late Night’s Chaos

Emily Yahr for The Washington Post:

The past couple of years have had so much upheaval in the ever-expanding realm of late-night TV that it’s easy to overlook this significant fact: O’Brien is now the longest-tenured host of them all.

This profile explains perfectly why so many love Conan O’Brien.
